Business Coaching: EcoSmart Electricians Training (4 sessions)
21 Jul 2010 4.00pm
Description
EcoSmart Electricians Training

The National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) is again running a training program for electricians in energy efficient technology, products and installations.

Connecting you to a more sustainable future.

What is the EcoSmart Electricians program?

NECA, through its Victorian Chapter, with support from Sustainability Victoria, has developed and implemented a new and innovative national training and accreditation program for electricians in energy efficient technology, products and installations.

What does the course entail?  The course comprises four compulsory modules:
• Energy management
• Lighting
• Pumps, fans and motors
• Solar, heating and cooling

Contractors and electricians who successfully complete all four modules will be eligible for EcoSmart Electricians accreditation, enabling them to promote their additional skills and add value to the services they offer to their customers.

Why is energy efficiency training important now?  There are increasing drivers in all markets - domestic, commercial and industrial - that are creating a growing demand for energy efficient and/or environmentally-friendly installations, technology and products, including:
• Increasing consumer awareness of environmental issues and the need to save energy (but most consumers are unsure how to go about it, or what the opportunities are)
• New energy efficiency measures for commercial and public buildings introduced into the Building Code of Australia with effect from 1 May 2006
• Growing opportunities for contractors to encourage energy efficient installations as they are regularly maintaining, repairing and upgrading installations in domestic, commercial and industrial premises
• Demand for electricity is growing nationally at four per cent per annum
• National emissions trading scheme in the pipeline which will drive demand for energy efficiency, particularly in non-domestic markets, and increase energy costs.

The key elements to drive consumer demand may include a combination of the following:
• Government-funded initiatives which stimulate consumer awareness and demand for energy efficient products and services and accredited professionals
• Financial incentives for customers to invest in energy saving products and technologies
